Posted March 11, 2018 10:19:51The NFL will stop using its car wrap advertising program in the 2017-18 season, the league announced Tuesday.
The NFL and the league’s television partners have been battling over the ad revenue from car wrap ad revenue, which is the NFL’s most popular commercial revenue.
The league said in January it planned to scrap the program and would pay a fine of up to $1 million to advertisers who would not run the ads.
The NFL’s advertising contract with its television partners is set to expire at the end of the 2019 season, but the league could still opt to keep it in place for the next two seasons.
The program, which allows teams to run car wrap and other television advertisements for up to 12 months, generated $3.2 billion in revenue for the league in 2018.
